Action Needed on International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances

On 30th August, on the occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, we renew our call on the UAE authorities to disclose the fate of many political prisoners who are still held amid unrevealed conditions.

The UAE continues to perpetrate the crime of enforced disappearance against men, women, and foreigners.

Often, enforced disappearances take place alongside other egregious human rights abuses, including torture, ill-treatment, sexual and gender-based violence, and extrajudicial executions.

Enforced disappearances leave devastating psychological, economic and social impacts on survivors and family members, as well as on society as a whole

On the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, we call on Emirati authorities to ensure accountability for the crime of enforced disappearance, and to bring redress to victims, survivors, and family members affected by the crime.
