CAIR Calls on Human Rights Defenders not to Travel to the UAE

America's largest Muslim civil rights organization, CAIR organization, called on Americans working for Human Rights in the Middle East not to transit through or visit the UAE.

The statement came after the arrest of US lawyer Asim Ghafoor over his association to Jamal Khashuggi case where he had represented Khashoggi and his fiancee, Hatice Cengiz.

CAIR stressed that the arrest of Asim Ghafoor is proof that the UAE is not a safe place for human rights defenders.

CAIR further called in US President Joe Biden to "hold the UAE and other so-called ‘allies’ to account for their unlawful detentions and killings of American citizens."

Joe Biden issued an executive order to deter unlawful detentions of Americans abroad. While this is an important step, it is useless if it's not used against those guilty of this activity, like the UAE, CAIR said.

"The Biden administration must take all measures to Free Asim Ghafoor."
