The launch of a cyber-security centre in the UAE

The two companies «Smartworld» and «The Kernel» announced yesterday the launch of a cyber-security centre, the first of its kind in the UAE. The centre strives to train citizens in cyber security, on top of providing advanced security surveillance around the clock, and managing cyber risks on behalf of the public and private sectors companies.

The two companies signed a strategic partnership agreement for the establishment of this centre. The agreement was signed by Abdul Kader Ali, CEO «Smartworld» and Dr. Moones Kayali, CEO of «The Kernel».

The agreement raises several concerns about its use in the prosecution of political activists in regard to issues related to freedom of expression, especially in light of what has been indicated by several press reports, most notably as published in the Middle East Eye. Government agencies constantly sought to establish surveillance centres that would serve the security service and strived to recruit an UAE's international team composed of computer experts, whose purpose is to develop mechanisms to monitor the long-term surveillance systems in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Dr. Saif Al Ketbi explained that this cyber security centre is meeting the growing need for protection and  risk control and is adopting an approach designed to develop local talents in the field of cyber security, in addition to identifying institutions and protecting them from external risks.
