Political prisoner Khaled al-Shaiba denied family visits

Al-Razeen prison authorities have denied family visitation rights to Emirati prisoner of conscience Khaled al-Shabibi for the last four consecutive months.

Khaled al-Shaiba, 68, from Ajman, who is also being refused access to legal counsel, was detained on July 16th 2012. He was later sentenced to 15 years after being convicted alongside 68 other human rights activists in the infamous ‘UAE94’ show trials.

The decision to strip al-Shabibi of his rights is in clear violation of the provisions of the Federal Law No. 43 of 1992 on Regulating Penal Institutions.

His family have raised deep concerns over his well-being, as he is known to have been suffering from severe health problems since being detained in 2012.
