Press Release: ICFUAE Takes Action to Raise Awareness of Freedoms under Threats in the UAE

On Friday, 26th August, the International Campaign for Freedom engaged people in Oxford Street to raise awareness of freedoms under threats in the UAE. In an action in front of the Emirates-owned building, which is current home of BHS, people joined the ICFUAE in campaigning for freedom of expression and human rights.
Human rights organisations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have raised concerns about violations of basic human rights and personal freedoms in the UAE, including freedom of expression and the ill-treatment of prisoners and arbitrary arrests of political activists and human rights defenders.
Recent cases have highlighted the ways in which the UAE uses Cyber Crimes Laws to silence its critics. In one of these episodes, activist Ahmed Mansoor, who received the Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders in 2015, was the target of spyware technologies.
The ICFUAE campaigns for respect for human rights, the release of all political prisoners, an end to torture of those detainees, support for an independent judiciary and support for progress towards a representative elected parliament and overall democratic reform.
