UAE National Day disregards 200 imprisoned human rights activists

The UAE authorities ordered the release of 1,102 prisoners on the occasion of the 45th UAE National Day.

The pardon disregarded more than 200 human rights activists who were imprisoned without charge or trial for voicing criticism to the government.

The pardon was allegedly offered to give a chance to the released inmates to start a new life and bring joy to their families, while keeping imprisoned activists away from their families and beloved ones.

Dozens of peaceful activists in UAE jails are prevented since their detention from meeting their families or lawyers.
