Five year on, Ahmed Mansoor deserves freedom

ICFUAE is saddened that another year has gone by of Ahmed Mansoor’s arbitrary detention without any indication of his liberation.

On today’s fifth anniversary of his unjust detention in the UAE, it is crucial for the Emirati authorities to immediately and unconditionally release him.

Mansoor’s imprisonment is a direct reflection of the UAE government’s continuous systemic oppression of political dissidents.

The authorities need to recognise its constitutional responsibility to uphold and respect human rights, which extends to its treatment of those detained.

Given the deterioration of Mansoor’s health since his arrest, the UAE prison system needs to do more to ensure the health and safety of its detainees.

Ahmed Mansoor’s ongoing unlawful detention in solitary confinement is nothing but a shameful dichotomy of his strive to fight for better human rights within the UAE.

He must be freed immediately if the UAE wants to demonstrate its true commitment to human rights.
