Torture Complaint against UAE

Torture Complaint against UAE

A torture complaint was filed in Berlin against the ruler of Dubai and an Interpol chief.

A Finnish woman who tried to help Emirati Princess Latifa flee the United Arab Emirates has filed a complaint against Latifa's father, ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum and head of Interpol, Maj. Gen. Ahmed Naser al-Raisi.

Tiina Jauhiainen is accusing the pair of torture and human rights abuses. Jauhiainen is a friend of the princess and in March 2018 she helped her attempt an escape on a private boat, until Emirati security forces intercepted them off India's Malabar Coast.

According to the complaint, which was filed in Germany, Jauhiainen was arbitrarily detained and tortured by UAE security forces over the course of three weeks following the failed escape.

She also claims she was tied up for at least six days in a confined space on two different boats on the way back to the UAE.

Once back on land, she was held in solitary confinement in a freezing cold room with no windows for two weeks while undergoing up to 18 hours a day of interrogations.

She says she is now fighting for justice for what she was put through for 'simply trying to help a friend get out of an abusive situation'.
