Video: Women tortured in Abu Dhabi prisons

In a series of letters and audio recordings smuggled out of Abu Dhabi’s al Wathba prison, female detainees reveal torture, degrading treatment and inhuman conditions.

Detainees are denied clean drinking water, and are served inadequate food resulting in ill-health. However, no basic health care is provided.

Women are prevented from communicating with family members over the phone and the families are prevented from visiting them.

ICFUAE calls upon UAE authorities to independently investigate these and all other allegations of torture.

It also calls on the authorities to put an end to the systematic practise of torture in UAE detention centres.
